| Strongmen & Wrestlers: Strongmen are the same in any language: muscle-bound and sexy, and images of the Russian, German and Eastern-European wrestlers at the turn of the 20th Century spoke volumes. With equally unabashed self-promotion as Eugene Sandow in the West, wrestlers like Hackenschmidt, Lurich, Morton and Pospeshil delighted fans with cabinet card and carte postale mementos of their monumental bodies. The images remained popular and were distributed widely from as early as the 1880s to the 1920s.
